Re: summit headers
passenger side must be dented to clear frame. they will tell you other wise.. they lie. i used a pipe and a hammer..... eventually the torque of the motor will make room. i doubt it really effects performance.... this was on my 71gmc

Re: summit headers
I bought a set of hedman elite coated headers from a place called street side auto for $260 shipped. They seem to have sales going on all the time and I got free shipping. I haven't installed them yet but they look really good.

Re: summit headers
I have summit brand headers on my 67 and my dad bought a set of flowtechs from autozone for his they are the same... identical if you will. So for what its worth no problems out of either set. Mine are 9 years old his are 6 or so. These are the painted variety btw.

Re: summit headers
Running summit brand since '02 on 2wd manual. No clearance problems at all, not even with the stock " z" bar clutch linkage. I did not need to dent mine to clear the frame. They have held up quite well, why spend more money?

Re: summit headers
I ran a set of flowtechs on mine. Fit couldn't have been any better. No interference anywhere. Had to modify my AC bracket buy cutting part off because it mounted over exhaust manifold. Also new Alt. brackets because mounted to front of exhaust manifolds. This is on a 68 C20 with 327, no holes in front of heads for bracket mounting. Installed from bottom, didn't have to remove anything, didn't even have to raise truck. It's a c20. Good luck with the install. Go with Copper gaskets though.

Re: summit headers
I have a set of Summit headers on my `70 C-20.I had no issues with frame interference or otherwise.I'm running a hyd clutch so can't vouch for manual linkage clearance, but it looks like there should be clearance. I bought the painted ones for $99.00 since I don't drive mine in the salt in winter.

Re: summit headers
I speak from personal experience. Mine fit fine, I didn't have to modify any tubes.
Before I installed them, I noticed a part number stamped into the tube near the collectors on the bottom. Google search of that part number brought up Dynomax's webpage for GM truck headers. They are Dynomax headers.

Re: summit headers
All i can say about hedder purchases is to watch the tightness of the bends where they come out of the heads. I bought a 67 1/2 ton last week. I was running poorly ( choke wasnt opening all the way. Carb needed adj. And vac adv was hooked to manifold vac not ported from the carb ). After this i went to install new plugs and had to get four accell shorty plugs for hedder clearance. These arent cheap. A real shame cause the hedders are ceramic coated, and there was no reason to bend them this tight.

Re: summit headers
To the op, they are the same as flowtechs. On my lwb I didn't have to clearance the flowtechs. Small block.

Re: summit headers
I believe the summit headers have only a 1 1/2" primary.

Re: summit headers
THats correct, perfect for boosting torque on stock to mild sbc's. Stock manifolds only have a 2" outlet altogether..
