Re: 305 rebuild...please help
No worries on the questions...
Me... I'd just save up for a 350 and toss the 305. You'll thank me later. A lot of SBC parts will work no problem. The beauty of the SBC is that so many parts are interchangeable. Gary

Re: 305 rebuild...please help
the 305 will be okay for a daily driver. you can do a simple carb and intake swap to delete all of the emissions stuff. wont be that hard at all.

Re: 305 rebuild...please help
Yes, you can use most all intakes up to 1987, distibutor, manifolds/headers, and brackets 1968 up from older SBC's.

Yes the MPG will be affected: it will improve once you get rid of that crap.

Re: 305 rebuild...please help
Have the block checked out before you buy any parts for sure. And before you spend big money on machine work see if the shop has any 350 blocks laying around. The shop that put my engine in had cores everywhere from previous cars.

Re: 305 rebuild...please help
You're getting the same response I got when I asked about rebuilding the 305 that was installed in my stepper.
I took everybody's advice and used the 305 as a core and upgraded to a 350. I'm so glad I did. I got much better power and milage was about the same for me.

Re: 305 rebuild...please help
I agree, mph will be better without the emissions.
350, you will like better, it will cost the same to rebuild the 305 as the 350, and you will use most of the same parts. So you could lightly build the 305 than swap parts to the 350. You can basically delete all emissions without buying anything, all you need is pcv, brake vacuum, tranny vacuum ( if it's auto ).
