Re: Putting a Fleetside bed on a stepside truck

The rear cross sills are different and the intermediates are to. as you found out. I would relocate the back mounts . It looks like you have the bed apart so it should not be too big of a problem It looks like you have the one member in the wrong spot. it goes further to the front and mounts on the plates revited to the frame. Kind of like an extension.

Looking further at pics the bed is not apart I noticed. I looks like to me that rear intermediate is installed wrong place

Re: Putting a Fleetside bed on a stepside truck

Yes, I was going to relocate the rear brackets. I am very certain that the rear crossmember is in the correct location. It mounts to the bed where the rear wheelwell bolts go, correct? Is it possible that stepside frames don't have that rear mount. But, what about the front crossmembers (which I can get better pics of later) only one of them even remotly lines up (which still might require some drilling), the other one isn't even close. I would switch them, but they are exactly the same. Ideas?

I don't know it was on the truck when I got it. Also, it has a GMC tailgate on it. I don't know if GMC bed are different or not.

There is a difference in frame dimensions 60-62, then 63-66 and up. I believe your box is from 60-62 or at least the cross members are.

As aerotruk63 said, there is a difference in the frames, if you look in the catalogs you'll see the cross sills are different part numbers, I think the earlier frame is about 3" wider

EDIT: whoa, just measured, my '61 frame is about 7 1/2" wider than my '66 at the rear!

Re: Putting a Fleetside bed on a stepside truck

as mentioned, the frames, and cross sills are different, the break is 60-62, and then 63-66.
I had no problem change out the beds fleet, and step on my 63, and my 66, they both bolted right back on to the other truck.
you will either have to get different cross sills, or just fab up some brackets to make it work.

60-66 never came with a metal floor, however I suspect they would be different (3/4 inch taller)on the 67-72 that did have the metal or wood floor

Re: Putting a Fleetside bed on a stepside truck

On the '67-'72's with the metal bed floors, the cross sills are part of the floor....as in spot welded to it. Also the rear sill is a part of the floor, and the front bed panel is different than a wood floor panel. Just a little FYI......

I swapped the step-side from my 66 on to my 65 and it bolted right up....
