Re: LS Engine Swap Question to the Collective

It is the 5.3L. But like you I didn't not want to try and convert everything to digital. I also am doing something that everyone thinks is going backwards. I am doing the edelbrock carb conversion. I bought the engine for $600 and the conversion for $600. So I am only in at $1200 because I all ready have everything else. I am also using a rebuilt 200-4r trans because of the same reasons. Remember the "L" engines have a flexplate that is dipped in the center so a older trans (th350, th400, 200-4r) torque conver center nose will not reach. So you have to get an adapter so that it can reach.

6D8_C10 - Where did you get the adapter? Don't you have to use a different flex plate in addition to the adapter?

Re: LS Engine Swap Question to the Collective
a GenIII LQ4 is a good choice. You want to stay with a EFI truck intake in a truck because of the weight. Truck intakes make better torque w/o giving up too much top end. Going to the GenIV L92/LS3 style heads requires an intake change which if staying EFI is available(LY6,L92, and maybe L76?) and if going carb'd only single plane intakes are available. Not sure how the 200-4r TV cable hooks up to a cable style throttle body though.
I have a '09 LY6. It is the LQ4's replacement and has VVT along with L92 heads. I am removing the VVT and replacing with a high lift medium duration dual pattern cam, replacing the EFI intake with a carb style aluminum intake and using a Holley carb. Right now only single plane carb intakes are available from Edelbrock and GM, but GM is supposed to release a L92 style dual plane intake in about a month, thats been in the GMPP catalog for two years now. I am waiting for that intake. The build also includes a built(500+hp) 200-4r w/2500rpm stall converter.

Re: LS Engine Swap Question to the Collective
...and yes...there is an adapter (.400?) to run the "old style" transmissions available from GM.

Re: LS Engine Swap Question to the Collective
What kind of gas mileage would you get with a LQ4 and a carburetor?

Re: LS Engine Swap Question to the Collective
I meant to write LM7 not Q.
The carb conversion I got has a dual plane. http://www.jegs.com/p/Edelbrock/Edel...55239/10002/-1 I got my adapter from Jegs also. Its made by Hughs. You either need new flex plate or the adapter. NOT both. http://www.jegs.com/i/Hughes+Perform...P3795/10002/-1 I haven't got it running yet, but I imagine it would get better MPG than a standard SBC. The other thing about the carb conversion is the linkages to run the old trans is easier too.
