What headers will fit a sb400 without having to modify them?
I was wanting to get a set of headers for my sb400 but I dont want to spend like $500 and have to modify them.
I dont want painted headers. I'm looking for ceramic coated or perferable the black ceramic coated headers. Something that will not rust. I really just need to know which ones worked best for you with NO modifications. Thanks guys! |

The fact that it's a 400 does not matter. First generation small blocks are all the same in that respect.
I do sympathize with your "fitment" issues, I have had several sets that were no so good over the years.

Re: What headers will fit a sb400 without having to modify them?
Any header made for a small block C-10 should fit, not saying that it will fit 100% with no issues though. All headers ain't made equally.
Regular Hooker "comp" headers (not the "super-comps" with huge primaries), and the Edelbrock T.E.S. headers fit better right out of the box than just about any other brand. Both are available coated. Check the manufacturer's info carefully to make sure you get the right header to fit your particular combo. There are a lot of variations in accessory mounting between different years that affect installation, it's easier to swap some brackets than to start modifying the headers. Also check your motor mounts beforehand, sunken or broken motor mounts can affect how the motor sits in the vehicle and can cause clearance issues. I found this out the hard way. |

Got a set of flowtech ceramic-coated headers from J.C. Whitney for 251 and free shipping plus no tax. really pleased with fit and quality.
