I am going to be purchasing a new tach and was just wondering if I need a mechanical or electronic tach? It sounds like a pretty dumb question but don't really know

Your answer was electric right? it should be.
In case you dont know or haven't ran a search yet. The tach signal wire connects to the distributor cap. On the plastic that extrudes from the cap (drivers side) you will see a location marked "tach".
