engine mounts

Question, Are the 6cyl motor mounts and the v8 mounts the same. And when i say mounts i am referring to the "tower" "perches" that bolt to the frame rail and cross member. I am using the 6cyl mounts and i moved the motor forward 3 inches to the v8 mount spot, the top lines up however the single bolt on the bottom is not lining up with the hole. Whatca think is wrong? thats why i am questioning if there is a difference.
thanks

Re: engine mounts

No, you need v8 towers and they do mount in the forward holes.

Re: engine mounts

They are different but you can use them in the original I6 location with a V8.

Re: engine mounts

There are 5 different engine towers used in 67-72 2 wheel drives. They are as following
67-72 inline 6 cylinder
67-70 GMC V-6
67-72 SB V-8
68-71 BB V-8
72 BB V-8
If you leave the 67-72 inline 6cyl. engine towers where they were from the factory you can install a SB V-8 on them without needing to move the motor, just use I6/SB V-8 motor mounts ( yes inline 6 & SB V-* use the same rubber mounts.
If using a HEI it puts it around 1 1/2" from the cowl firewall with the V-8 sitting in this position, you get better weight transfer, no need to lengthen drive shaft so you can continue using a 1pc drive shaft. If you have a manual transmission you'll need to do some minor mods to get linkage for clutch z-bar correct but its nothing major, if its a automatic you'll need to do nothing on linkage.
I own 3 trucks done this way and I feel they handle better all around with the more even weight distribution having the V-8 further rearward on the Inline6cyl towers.

By the way it leaves a 1 1/2" clearance to the firewall from the distributor using a HEI distributor IF YOUR CAB MOUNTS ARE GOOD, I've seen trucks where the cab mounts were shot and the cab was sagging so much they beat the firewall with a hammer to clear the distributor, after mounts were replaced they then had a good 3" clearance. So check your cab mounts.
