Dodge Ram Chassis under 72

Anyone have any idea how similar a 94-97 dodge ram 4x4 standard cab chasiss is to a 67-72 c10 cab and front clip?

Basically there is a 94 dodge ram 4x4 cummins 2500 standard cab long bed with very low miles for sale real cheap because it was in an accident, no damage to front clip or frame.

Soo I have a very clean 72 cab and front clip along with a flat bed laying around. It would be awesome to have a 4x4 cummins powered chevy with a factory four link dana 60 front end. I know it would take some work including new body mounts and much more.

lemme know what you think

Thanks

Robert

I wanna do this too, but put a suburban body on it.

I know on "Trucks" they were putting a mid-70s ford crew cab onto a later cummins dodge chasis. The had to move the mounts around a little, but didn't seem that difficult to me.

Re: Dodge Ram Chassis under 72

The only real hurdle is the frame rail width and length but since you want a flat bed only the width really matters.

From what I was able to find the Dodge frame is about 37.4" wide and the wheel base is about 134.7" for the regular cab long bed.

With our rails about 34" you will need to fab up some custom frame stands for the cab & core support mounts to fit the width & contours of the Dodge frame. Shouldn't be too hard.

The worst part would be making sure you could get the front wheels centered in the fender wells and still have the Cummins clear the core support & firewall without major frame surgery.

Re: Dodge Ram Chassis under 72

I saw a 71-72 sitting on an 88+ shortbed chevy chassis the other day...IFS and all. It had to have a ridiculous body lift to clear everything....IMO it looked terrible.

If it all fit though, that would be one cool truck.

Re: Dodge Ram Chassis under 72

I was going to do this but just ended up putting in a 12 valve cummins in the 69 frame. From what I kinda gathered, the motor will need to be pushed back a couple inches to fit or you are going to run into problems with the fan and the radiator. You cant really do a pusher fan well due to the intercooler.

Shortening the frame is no big deal, trimming fuel lines and brake lines are fine. You will have to build cab mounts...again, not to bad. If you run a 4x4, it will be ok, the frame shape is different and you would essentially have a body lift.

For what its worth, I think it is really just easier to use a stock Chevy frame.

I have a build thread started in the projects section for me 12v conversion.

Dodge frames are oddball wide.I wouldn`t think it`s worth it when you can use your frame.

Re: Dodge Ram Chassis under 72

don't you run into problems using the 67-72 frames with the AC comp. on the cummins hitting?

Re: Dodge Ram Chassis under 72

It has been done over in the 4x4 section already. It was a chopped cab on a dodge frame. Trevor
