Lowering 1986 longbox
Hello,
I want to lower my longbox, but I am unsure what to use in the rear. I bought shackles awhile ago, but notice now that that would probably require hacking the bed rails. Any suggestions on where to buy a good kit to lower the back 4-5" and the front 2.5-3" ? (price does matter) Thanks |

Re: Lowering 1986 longbox
if your drop shackles are big then you probably will have to cut into the x-members.. i would do an axle flip to the top of the leafs. the kit is pretty cheap and pretty easy to do. the amount of drop u get depends on how many leafs you have in the rear. it will give you 5-6ish inches of drop. and i dont know for sure but i think you have to do a mild c-notch. its easy with a kit or u could make your own pretty easily

Re: Lowering 1986 longbox
Cheapest way....flipkit from summitracing.com, don't think your require a cnotch with only 5in drop. Yank out the front coils, if you don't feel like spending 100 bucks on drop coils, cut a coil and half off your oem springs. Coil and half will give you a 3inch drop.
Good luck. |

Does the Summit flip kit come with c-notch destructions? I already have drop coils from Summit for the front. I also have the drop shocks.

Re: Lowering 1986 longbox
I´ve got a flipkit on my longbox without the c-notch and modified the original bumpstops and i´m fine! when i put weight in the bed the axle lays on the soft rubberbumpers and doesn´t ride bad! The stance is good too!

Re: Lowering 1986 longbox
It´s lowered 4.5/6 i think and i tried it with 2 leafes removed but that was to much so i put them back in and i´m fine!
The ride is sporty but not harsh. When i hit a hole or bump in the road to fast the front tires rub the wheelwells a bit but thats ok since they stick out a little! Volker

Re: Lowering 1986 longbox
check out norcal ss in the vendor section he will meet or beat anyone's price. he is who i picked up my 5" front and 5" rear drop. great gyuy to work with. check out my build thread, i have the rear end back together with no c-notch and have plenty of room. should have the front back together this week. went with 3" drop spindles and 2" drop springs.
