Re: Holley's New 67 Shop truck
Great choice of models.
[This factory fresh pickup will have a vintage shop truck vibe featuring a factory paint scheme and hand lettered truck door signage with old–timey Holley logos. Of course a killer stance is a must along with a set of custom designed big diameter 6–lug wheels that will knock your socks off. The “go” will be provided by a 480 horse hot cam LS3 cleverly disguised as a vintage big block backed by a Tremec TKO 600 5 speed tranny ] I'm on board with their plans all except the "big diameter 6-lug wheels". In my mind big diameter wheels do not at all go along with old-timey logos and such. If the vintage or period look is what one is after then it seems to me the wheel type and sizes of that time should be used as well. JMO

To bad they`ll kill the whole vintage vibe with "big diameter" wheels.I love it so far.

1) More importantly, in my opinion, is how the heck does a company like holley go bankrupt?
2) P.S. i love the cardboard wheelcovers. Seriously. |

Re: Holley's New 67 Shop truck
X3 - lose the big wheels - not sure I'd C-notch it either, but that's just me, a 2/4 drop or at the most a 4/6 drop would be just fine. I didn't know they had gone bankrupt.

Re: Holley's New 67 Shop truck
I like the headers they made up. I want to see how low they hang. Big wheels aren't all bad, unless they are spinners. Sometimes big brakes mandate bigger than 15" wheels, and tire choice for smaller diameter wheels is getting pretty limited.
I think Holley went bankrupt twice?

Re: Holley's New 67 Shop truck
Bankruptcy for these corporations is only a paper restructuring of debt.Only poor folks lose on bankruptcy.Chrysler has been bankrupt about 3-4 times and still builds car/trucks every day.
I'm in on the ditch the big diameter wheel thing.Brakes are not a good excuse since there are options that are plenty good for brakes that will work better than any stockers with 15's.

Re: Holley's New 67 Shop truck
I am glad everyone likes the truck. I am a Product Manager at Holley. I went and got the truck out of Michigan late last year. It was a full frame off resto when we bought it. It was a plain jane truck with straight 6 and a 3 on the tree. radio delete etc. We brought it home to KY and started laying out plans for it. The goal of this build is to have a vintage looking truck with a modern vibe. Alot of you do not like the big wheels but check out the pics and I think you will like them. Once finished, they will have blasted centers with a polished rim. The LS3 will be Chevy orange and will take on the look of a traditional carbureted big block but will be fuel injected using our new Holley EFI.
We are doing this so we can offer kits or individual parts where you can take a 67-72 truck and aquire everything needed for a bolt in LS swap. We want to make it easy to do these swaps. I personaly love these trucks and have a 72 SWB step and recently aquired a 69 SWB, a 70 Custom LWB 3 SWB frames and many various parts. I am currently converting the 70 LWB to a SWB with a 5.3 LS swap. As I am writing this, we just got the frame back from the powdercoaters yesterday and it is going to be a mad dash to get this thing done as we will be debuting it and the 87 El Camino project on the Hot Rod Power Tour. I will join the tour at the bowling green stop and will be driving the 67 the rest of the way. If any of you are going to be on the tour, be sure to look me up as I am always glad to meet 67-72 truck enthusiest. Jay |

Re: Holley's New 67 Shop truck
The big wheel thing on this truck for me isn`t about whether I like them or not. It`s the fact that "vintage shop truck" plus large diameter wheels doesn`t add up.It`s an oxymoron.Big diameter wheels are contemporary, not vintage.I don`t care what style they are.I like the truck and even like the wheels ok.I`m glad you kept them modestly large and not the toy store look of the huge rims. With large diameter wheels and a computerized engine I guess it`s a contemporary shop truck with a vintage vibe.
