65 Chevy c10 Chatter in steering column
Steering column chatter three on the tree shifter?
I have a 65 Chevy c10 with three on the tree and when I drive uphill or even on flat ground accelerating slow the column chatters quite a bit. If I pull the shift lever towards me it shuts up. I pulled the wheel and covers and I see no way of tightening anything. Anyone have any ideas? I also checked the upper column bearing it seems ok. It feels as if it is in the upper part of the steering column around the shift lever but am not sure. |

Re: 65 Chevy c10 Chatter in steering column
run a higher octane of fuel or retard your timing until it disappears. sounds like your eng is more than likely pinging and it transfers the vibration into your steering column. you also have some wear in some places i the strg column, but that wear in those parts come to life when the eng pings under load of the throttle. if you gear down in that instance the problem should go away as your eng is in a higher rpm range and you are not lugging the eng

I have a 230 with 3ott also. Does the same thing. Found the long linkage rods to the tranny both well warn at the swivels. They rattle against each other or the frame. It'll need some more washers at the swivels to tighten them up.

Re: 65 Chevy c10 Chatter in steering column
I run 12 degrees initial. No pinging or detonation. I don't know what the stock setting is.
