I'd tend to agree, but maybe go and see it? that might just turn out an amazing discovery.

Re: craigslist: too good to be true

Call him up, and go look at it.

After spending time on craigslist anything that's not an obvious fake escrow/shipping scam seems like a breath of fresh air. Ads with phone numbers you can call are few and far between it seems sometimes.

Rereading the ad, it's far too good to be true. Despite how it's not written like your typical scam ad. Still gotta wonder what the motivation behind this one is, I can't imagine how this ad turns into scammed cash.

glad we were at least able to catch it before more heartache for Benny. That is one of the good things about this board so many die hard guys if there is a rat we can usually figure it out.

Re: craigslist: too good to be true

I will never again assume something is a scam.

Last Sunday i bought a 79 Pontiac Firebird from Craigslist. Ad seemed too good to be true.

Here is what the ad said...

1979 firebird redbird... All original... needs TLC, great project car, wish I had more time... 63,000 original miles, new battery yesterday and starts right up...
asking $1,000 or best offer... not gonna give it away... NO TRADES... please only call, WILL NOT ANSWER EMAIL... Wendell @ 1-555-555-5555... Thanks

Some pics of the car were in the ad as well. But in the pics there was snow around the car.

I called, he still had it. I told him i wanted to see it. That i would be right over. He was like yea, thats what the other 5 callers said. But nobody has shown up yet.
So i showed up. He said, I'm shocked you showed.

I bought the car for $800

Darn near MINT maroon interior.

So, with all that being said. It never hurts to call.

Same thing Longhornman said.

Honestly it only too some fresh gas and Seafoam to make this car a driver. It sat for 7 years garaged.

But, i already sold it. Guy that works across from my house asked about it. I priced it at $2K. He took it.

Had it 2 days.

Love that.

Re: craigslist: too good to be true

This add was mean and malicious and was aimed at my son. Not only did my sons phone blow up with people wanting to buy the truck, but when people contacted the person who placed the add he gave out my sons address and a satelite picture of his house. This is the guys email address: (removed to stop emails) I would like to teach this guy a lesson, so if you are in with me... Email this guy and lets blow up his email address. WES

Sorry I am not up on terminology... does blow it up mean to flood it with gobs of email?

I guess it would be nice to have whatever software spammers use to automatically generate large volumes of it, and direct it all towards this guy.

Re: craigslist: too good to be true

Well first off, I would like to thank everyone here for responding so well to my sons problem. The add has been removed from craigslist and, well I think that I was able to figure out who did it. I believe it was one of my other boys (Sons) playing a practical joke on Benny. It turns out that my son playing the joke on Benny has done this to his older brother a couple of times and his older brother had returned the favor to him, so it was all in good fun for them. Benny was not in on any of the joking around as I wasn't either. This is why I was so concerned and that isn't even concidering the people who's time they wasted. That to me has gone beond a practical joke. Anyway I will have this discussion with my boy and hopefully it wont happen again.
You guys are great and is good to know you will jump in to help each other when needed. WES

Re: craigslist: too good to be true

I guess only about 5-10 emails made it through, but it was still enough to get under their skin. He sent me a nasty email back claiming that I was offering sexual favors in trade for the truck and that the truck was still available.

I had a similar thing happen to me a couple weeks ago. Someone posted a ad for a vintage bike with my Name and number in the ad. I collect pre WW2 vintage bicycles and wish I owned the one in the picture on the ad lol

Sorry about the nasty return emails from him. I guess it got out of hand and he wasn't expecting that. If he would return his calls I could have prevented the nasty return emails. WES

Re: craigslist: too good to be true

Sometimes things are too good to be true but you can bet that I will waste my own time just to prove it to myself. For this reason, I bought a 68 Camaro with a big block and a 4 speed for 2k back in 2005. Kept the motor/trans and sold the roller, which needed TONS of work for 6K. This is why you have to chase down these things just to be sure.
