Dodge Cop Car

Well, I thought it was time to work on something "different". It's an '89 Dodge Diplomat AHB, police package, ex TN Hwy patrol car. It's a 318/360 heads, A999 HD transmission, 8 1/4 2.94 gear w/Sure Grip, huge disc brakes with huge finned drums in the rear, front and rear swaybars, external oil/trans/PS coolers and the inside is basic cop look with the 125mph "Certified" speedo.

I was using this as a winter beater, and it's grown on me. I've added an Air Gap intake, 1406 carb, Mopar Performance ignition and blaster coil, it already had the cats removed with a Flowmaster Y pipe that turns 3" and runs into a Turbo muffler. I also made the dual snorkel air cleaner that's on it from a spare that I had laying around and cut the new duct out. It actually pulls pretty nicely, shifts super firm, and handles AWESOME. But, it could use a few 100 extra horsepower...

My plans are:

Fix the little dents and surface rust
Repaint it white
Freshen the interior with carpet, front seats and headliner
Suspension rebuild and go through the entire car for any other problems
For an engine, I'm planning on doing a 390 stroker with the original 318. Basically, a 318 bored .030 over with a 4" crank. Hughes sells the complete kit, rods, pistons, bearings, crank etc for around $1600. Add a set of better heads/Hi-Po "340" style exhaust manifolds and a Voodoo 270ish cam, this thing will be the perfect sleeper.

I see the same cars all the time at car shows. I'm getting burned out on seeing the same stuff over and over. I want to build something different, this is defintely different. I hope somebody here likes it.

A tired warrior of the 1980s in a world of low profile tires, front wheel drive, and plastic bumpers, where people stay in their houses until snowplows move the offending substance from their paths, too helpless to travel without AAA and chains and salt, clearing their windows with longhandled brushes while gently stepping around in the snow trying to stay nice and dry.

Re: Dodge Cop Car

... its got a cop motor of 440 cubic inch plan, its got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks ... the model made before catalytic converters so it will run good on regular gas ...

Oh yea, wayyy cool, but as a mopar junkie, i have to say lose the 318 and get a 360 and stroke that to 408. The small bore on the 318 kinda hinders the breathing by shrouding the valves. Also, try and find a 87-91 360 as it will have roller lifters stock from the factory, then you can get whatever cam specs ground on your core or just pick up an off the shelf grind. There roller cam motors will most likely not have the long snout on the cam for the fuel pump drive---however this is remedied easily with a piece made by Hughes---or just use an electric pump.
