WIW: Gearvendors over/underdrive

I came across someone looking to sell a gearvendors over/underdrive, S&W TH400 transmission, torque converter and two-piece drive shaft. They are used and have 1100 miles on them. What is a reasonable price for all these items?

Re: WIW: Gearvendors over/underdrive

Most GV units in good shape, used, go for about $900-$1100 (unless you score one out of a junkyard). Everything you have listed, I would say $1500 would be a good offer.

JimmyFloyd, I just went over the rules again and didnt see a restriction for WIW posts.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...nt.php?f=3&a=9

Can you share where you saw it was against the rules and I'll fix it right away? Thanks!

Any other thoughts on a fair price for these items guys?

The restriction comes in if you own the item and are trying to figure out how to price it.

Re: WIW: Gearvendors over/underdrive

Not sure. I would say 1500 would be reasonable. If it is for what you need(tranny wise) then that is a fair price. If you need to buy an adapter from GV for your tranny you are looking at 550.00 plus 250.00 core deposit on the old adapter you have to send back. Kind of makes it not worth it at that point. If you decide to pass on it will you send me the info? I could use it for the burb.

Sure will. The setup is complete and running right now so it doesn't need any adapters. Tranny is supposed to be bullet proof. $3000 is the current asking price -- not sure I can get him down to $1500.

Re: WIW: Gearvendors over/underdrive

Id say 2500 is more reasonable... If he can document the T400. The Vendors unit is bulletproof, of course. Hey, maybe he would let you buy just the Vendors unit? Then you could et closer to 1500.

Re: WIW: Gearvendors over/underdrive

I didn't realize we were talking about the complete set up. I would agree that for both the tranny and GV unit combined 2500.00 would be fair if it has all the paperwork and documentation on mileage. Is any of it still in warranty? I realize that alot of people don't drive thier classics that much in a year and the warranty may be out on both units due to time. Buying used trannies ( not the GV unit) is always scary for me because they can fail so easily. That's why used trannies are so cheap, you just never know what your getting, it's a gamble. Now, if he has no paperwork and it's out of warranty I would start at 2000.00 and go up to 2250.00. I would be interested in the GV unit only if you decide to pass on it, or if you only need or want the tranny.

Re: WIW: Gearvendors over/underdrive

I WAS A LITTLE BIT APPREHENCIVE ABOUT SPENDING A BIG PILE OF $ ON A GEAR VENDORS UNIT (SEEING AS HOW IT'S ALMOST 2 MONTHS OF MY RETIREMENT INCOME ) SO I CALLED GEAR VENDORS & TALKED TO ONE OF THEIR TECH.s AT LENGTH ABOUT THEIR WARRENTY. I EXPLAINED THAT IT WAS FOR A PROJECT & NO TELLING HOW LONG IT WOULD BE BEFORE I ACTUALLY GOT IT ON THE ROAD. HE EXPLAINED TO ME THAT IF ONE OF THEIR UNITS EVER FAILED, IN ANY APPLICATION, BEHIND ANY MOTOR OR BEHIND ANY TRANSMISSION EVEN BECAUSE OF ABUSE OR DRAG RACING, FOREVER THEY WOULD REPLACE IT AT ZERO COST TO ME OR ANYONE I HAPPENED TO SELL IT TO, NO QUESTIONS ASKED. HE SAID THEY WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A BROKEN UNIT TO PULL APART, AS THEY JUST DON'T FAIL. NOW I'VE NEVER HAD ANY OTHER CONTACT WITH THEM, BUT HE SURE SET MY MIND AT EASE & I DIDN'T NEED ANY FURTHER CONVINCING. I FIGURED THEY TRUELLY MUST BE BULLIT PROOF TO BE ABLE TO MAKE SUCH A BOLD STATEMENT. JOHN

John, I don't. Doubt your statement. So this isn't directed at you. But there website says 1 year on commercial applications and 2 years on personal applications, unlimited miles. If he made a statement about forever, I would sure have him put it in writing. If he feels that strongly about it, why don't theyadjust thier warranty terms?

THE TWO YEAR WARRENTY THING WAS WHY I CALLED & CHECKED UP ON IT. IT'S FOR A PROJECT & I DIDN'T HAVE ANY IDEA WHEN I WOULD HAVE IT ON THE ROAD. I DIDN'T WANT IT TO EXPIRE BEFORE I EVEN GOT A CHANCE TO USE IT. (SURE ENOUGH... 3 1/2 YEARS LATER & IT'S STILL IN THE BOX) GOOD THING IT'S NOT EATING I GUESS. BUT I HAD JUST SOLD MY HOUSE & WANTED ONE FOR YEARS & HAVE NEVER HEARD A SINGLE BAD THING ABOUT THEM. I'VE BEEN TOLD SEVERAL TIME'S I'M WAY TO TRUSTING OF PEOPLE. I'VE HAD AGREEMENTS WITH PEOPLE TO SELL (& BUY) SEVERAL BIG TICKET ITEMS (LIKE LARGE LAND TRACTS OR HOUSES) ON NOTHING BUT A HANDSHAKE, & I'VE BEEN BURNED A TIME OR TWO IN THE LAST 50 YEARS. BUT I'VE ALWAYS TAKEN THE ATTITUDE THAT IF YOUR WORD IS NO GOOD... WELL.... YOUR SIGNATURE PROBABLY ISN'T EITHER. I CAN USSUALLY TELL IN ABOUT THREE MINUTES OF TALKING TO SOMEONE WEATHER THERE FULL OF SH!T OR NOT. I TRY TO AVOID PEOPLE THAT ARE EVEN JUST A LITTLE BIT DISHONEST LIKE THE PLAUGE. MOST PEOPLE ARE HONEST & GOOD IF YOU GIVE THEM THE CHANCE TO BE. I DID JUST GET RIPPED OFF ON EBAY ABOUT A MONTH AGO FOR ALMOST $500. LUCKILY EBAY & PAYPAL COVERED MY LOSS & GAVE ME A FULL REFUND IN 21 DAYS. I'M A FIRM BELIEVER IN KARMA .... EVEN IF IT NEEDS A LITTLE HELP FROM A CRIPPLED UP OLD HILLBILLY ONCE IN A WHILE. JOHN
