Shipping a bench seat

Hey All,

I'm looking at buying a seat from another board member and we need to figure out how is the best way to ship a bench seat.

He is in Gulfport, Mississippi and I'm near Lexington, KY. Anyone making any road trips?

Other than a long road trip, has anyone packaged a seat for shipping on Grayhound or Freight Truck?

My thoughts are you could get a refrigerater box from a appliance store to pack it in. Run a couple 2x4's side to side (from the front of the rails and rear of the rails) than nail thru the box into the 2x4's so that the seat would stay put in the box.

Let's hear your ideas.

I've shipped 2 bench seats by Greyhound.
I just went to one of my body shop accounts, found a couple of the biggest boxes they had to throw away, and built the box around the seat. No big deal.

I sent a V.W. Bus 3/4 bench seat with armrest to California using Greyhound. I didn't box it. I bought 2' wide shrink wrap, and made the seat in to a cocoon. That's all a moving company does to all your furniture when you move cross country.

I bought a windshield from a member on here. The crate he built to ship it in was 14" by 6 feet, and out of 2x4's and weighed 100lbs. It cost 50.00 to ship by greyhound, from Kansas to Ca, not bad price I thought.

I shipped a bench seat on Greyhoung. I bought some heavy plastic at the hardware store. It's kind of like a dropcloth but thicker. Anyway I wrapped it up twice and sent it. Made it with no damage.

What did it cost to ship the seats on Grayhound?
The shrink wrap or plastic wrap sounds like it worked good. What about insurance?

Before you wrap your seat in plastic, be sure to check with the Greyhound terminal that you are shipping out of is ok with plastic.

Stroker had a problem with his terminal and had to remove the plastic and then box a part that he shipped to me. (This happened after he asked about plastic wrap).
