edp coating question

ok, i have my cab completely ready to paint, down to the floor. the question i have is should i take of the edp coating on the rockers, corners and new floor off? would there be better protection with it on or strip and normal paint prep. i plan on using some type of bedliner on the underneith. any suggestions or previous experience with this please let me know.

I'm no body man. I have read when it comes to EDP, the coating is just to protect the metal until your ready to paint.

I would take it down to bare metal and go from there.

The Muscle Car guys on TV stated that you need to rough it up and then seal, prime, paint...

Absolutely no need to remove it. We do this everyday. It is a corrosion protection. Years ago some parts came with black paint that needed to be removed before painting and that is where the confusion comes in. You know how much unnessary work it is to remove it? You scuff/rough it up and primer it and prep like normal. You can't leave it outdoors a long time without rusting it will still need painted with epoxy. Its not just for shipping. You don't need any TV show just go to a local body good body shop

so i would be alright scuffing and putting some type of bedliner on it? i was thinking of the upol/raptor or that new bed armor from duplicolor cause it is $75 and they have a $25 rebate right now. thanks for you expertise.

mike i saw that but those guys scare me! they have more money and resources than they realize and dont have to worry about making mistakes or woopsies!

I don't think I would just rough it and apply the bedliner. Like Mike said rough it and apply automotive primer then apply the coating of your choice.... I would recommend a dark colored primer so if the bedliner or whatever top coating you use gets scratched you won't see a lighter color underneath.

take a scotch bright which is just a scuff pad and thats good enough.. as long as u scuff the surface u will be ok.. i just hit my truck with 180 before i primed it then scoth bright the areas the sandpaper didnt get to... even on my rockers and corners which had the edp coating.. at the body shop i worked at thats all they guys did when they had new bumpers come in was just scuff padded it then shot it with sealer and paint
