Re: Flamethrowers?
I have them on my 70 CST. I bought a kit on the internet. It's a Spit-Fire kit. A brain box and two weld in bungs for spark plugs. Needed two 12 volt coils. I don't have pics of the install or the truck shooting flames. If you have a specific question, PM me and maybe I can help. I mounted my coils up under the rear crossmember and put the bungs far enough back in the exhaust tips so that they can't be seen from above. Flame throwers are illegal so it's nice to have it hidden.
Some people say not to put them on because they do cause wear to the engine since it shuts off the trucks ignition and introduces atomized fuel into the cylinders and then down into the exhaust pipes. I agree that it probably causes more wear to the engine but thats the tradeoff I guess. I love mine.

Re: Flamethrowers?
PICS PICS! My dad had these in his car when he was in high school. He used to tell stories of tailgaters that drove to close at night. Nothing like flames shooting out of your Chevy to make someone stop following too close! He also tortured people at cross walks by pulling up too far and make them walk behind the car.

Re: Flamethrowers?
The thought of raw fuel washing down my cylinders makes me cringe. It'd be cool if you could do it with propane and some sort of solenoids.

Re: Flamethrowers?
Showing my age:
A buddy of mine in high school put one of these in his '50 Chey slantback. Stock 6-cyl engine (Cherry Bomb exhaust made that green turtle at least sound fast), single tailpipe. He bought a Model T Coil (wooden box) for a buck (or maybe 50 cents) at a yard sale. Spark plug sort of halfway threaded down into a hole drilled into the exhaust pipe about a foot back from the tip. Wired the coil from the battery through a toggle switch on the dash back to the sparkplug. Rap on the gas, & back off, so the Cherry Bomb would sing, & at the same time: flip the coil-on switch to the spark plug, and the unburned fuel would lite-off and voila !!! flame thrower shooting out the tailpipe. |
