Re: compatible cabs?

The 79 cab will have a extra hole where it has the wiper switch, and yours should be located on the multi function switch on the column instead. Otherwise, my guess is, as long as it is an AC cab it'd work, just not sure if the extra wiper hole would be an issue or if the light switch hole would be in the correct spot. Also the 79 cab will not have the holes for the hood hinges in the cowl area.

We're about to do the exact opposite, we have a 79 truck and a 84 cab. We're just thinking of giving the 79 an updated/more modern interior though.

Re: compatible cabs?

Hood hinges and mounting are the biggest differences, they'll require a bit of fabrication, but it's not a big deal.

Re: compatible cabs?

The older cab will have shorter wiper arm housings on them, re use your newer wiper arm assemblys. Hood hinges are different, the 73-80 bolt only to the fender, the 81 and newer bolt to both the fender and cab.

Re: compatible cabs?

I put a dodge dana 60 single wheel axle in my 88 crewcab and bought some dually chevy hubs and they went right on no issues, so they should go the other way too. the only difference is an external and internal locking hub. Dodge used the externals back in the 70's to the mid to late 90's and those hubs are more expensive to replace
