Question weld up small hole in frame?

There is a small hole 1/2 inch in front under the radiator in the frame where the spare tire carrier used to be mounted. Will it hurt anything if I have it welded up? I've heard in the past that frames are tempered and are not suppose to be welded.

spare tire mount in front under the radiator?? that's confufising?? anyway in wouldn't generate enough heat to warp or damage the frame go ahead and weld it up

I assume the spare was up front because a large camper was on the back. I think frames are mild steel; IMO you won't change the temper much unless you immediately plunge it into ice water. Anyway I agree, weld it up.

You're OK on these old trucks but try to avoid welding on newer frames (say, 1988+) as they can be damaged by excess heat.
