Rear Power Window? DIY Project?
I'm was looking at this rear power window set up that I wish I had on my 84. I was wondering how hard would it be to build one? I borrowed thes pics from onelow1ton -thanks. What do you guys think? It appears that I could have the glass cut which would be cheap and easy. The track system SHOULD be easy to build. But what I wonder about is the window trim and seal? Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Re: Rear Power Window? DIY Project?
I've been gathering notes on doing one of these myself. I think the seal is pretty easy, just remember to have some sort of drain set up at the bottom of the window pan. Looked at one of these at a show up here a while ago, and the guy told me he didn't put a hole in the bottom, and it worked great until there was a heavy rain that worked it's way under a seal... when he opened it up to figure out why it stopped working he got soaked.
For "make it pretty" trim, I plan to just fibreglass and sand until it looks like the track matches up with the body. I'm sure there's parts you could scavenge, I hear the old Burbs sometimes had an auto rear window, but finding one is less likely than a lottery win. |
