TF rear end tear down question

Hey Guys!

Can someone tell me how to remove the axle shafts from tha tfactory rear end in my '58 1/2 ton? I know the "C" clips hold them in, but I'm not exactly sure of where the C clips are located. I want to replace all the wheel studs, bearings and seals. Are the C clips under the bearing caps on either side of the carrier? Is there any thing I need to know before I go pulling things apart?

Thanks,

Rob

Re: TF rear end tear down question

you need to remove the cross shaft lock bolt. slide out the cross shaft remove the spacer block and the push in the axles and remove the clips.

not sure but werent the originals like a ford where you just have 4 bolts on the end of the housing and then you can pull the axles out and then the whole carrier comes out the front

No. 3/4 ton and up had an axle that came out without dismantling the rear. The 1/2 ton 10 bolt had the same carrier from 54 up to 62 truck and all used C clips. The only common feature to Ford is the drop out center section and the way you adjust the carrier bearings.
