Re: Gentlemen jim sierra classic how rare?
They were indeed a special package offered. From what ive read they were fairly rare trucks. They came in black and silver, had gold interior and exterior trim, a gold grille, and bucket seats.

Re: Gentlemen jim sierra classic how rare?
No, they were not turbo'd. my guess the seller doesn't know what he is talking about. the trans is probably a TURBO Hydromatic 350. And he must have thought that meant that was the motor because one of the lingo for that trans is turbo 350.
Yeah, very cool rig! some of our members have these kind of truck.

Re: Gentlemen jim sierra classic how rare?
There were a lot more of the black/gold than blue/silver. They were a city boy's truck back in the day, a farm kid that worked his truck wouldn't be seen in one. Kinda goofy, though, it was little more than a couple of stickers.
I'm with Chionos, I like the Beau better. |

Re: Gentlemen jim sierra classic how rare?
The GJ had some cool options...buckets/console, kick panel speakers (yes, you read that right), and the gold trim (most thought it was 77 only that had that). Joe (ElGracho) is the resident expert on these...maybe he'll chime in.
Goofy or not, I like them both.

Re: Gentlemen jim sierra classic how rare?
The GMC Gentleman Jim was a special edition truck. The brochure on Jeff's site talks about them.
http://www.73-87.com/Special_Editions/Gentleman_Jim.htm They made the Gentleman Jim in 1975 only and only about 1/2 of the production year. They were all long bed, 1/2 ton, Sierra Classic trucks. They all had 350 v8 engines, TH 350 transmissions, A/C, bucket seats with console, AM/FM 8 track players with kickpanel speakers, special floor mats, and all were Black and Gold painted with Gentleman Jim decals and with saddle interiors with gold carpet. They all had gold rally wheels. Like Jeff said, they also had gold paint in the trim on the outside where a regular Sierra Classic would have black striping in 1975. All of them I've seen have a light duty suspension with the heavy duty brakes. I have one of them and my uncle has two. As far as how rare they are, it's tough to tell. They made a lot of trucks in 1975 and not that many of them were Gentleman Jims. They are 35 years old and most of them were used as trucks and have since been used up and scrapped. I haven't seen values change much since I got mine in 2002. The other truck people are showing is a Beau James. Somewhat similar package and also were produced only in 1975. They seem like more of an old-man truck to me with their bench seat and wire hub caps. One cool thing about them, they were available with both the 454 and 350 v8 engines. I have seen one that was a short bed too. Someone could have done an elaborate job on faking a SPID, but the correct Beau James option code was there along with the model and wheelbase that matched shortbed. It was pretty crapped out and for sale in Portland, Oregon about a year ago.

Re: Gentlemen jim sierra classic how rare?
I would have turned 9 years old in '75, and I remember seeing these trucks around then. I was more partial to the Gentleman Jim, but loved both of them.
Maybe one of these days..........

LMC truck sells replacement decals for both versions...for as many square bodies that I've laid eyes on, I don't think I've ever seen either one of these besides pics...

Re: Gentlemen jim sierra classic how rare?
wow guys thank you for the info. seeing this truck it seems they used to much gold and not enough black but i think if it was more white than black it would be more appealing to me.
that's just me though. |
