rear axle?
I have a '69 swb 1/2 ton 6 lug. I want to change to a 5 lug setup. Found a donor at pull a part. It is a 72 1/2 ton. My question is are the axles the same from the 69 to the 72 other than being 5 lug or 6 lug? In other words can I buy just the axles and put them in my rear end or do I need the housing and all from the 72?
While I am asking questions, here is another one. I bought the spindles and rotors today off of the truck to get the 5 lug and disc brakes. What else do I need to change to have the 69 accept this stuff? (ball joints, tie rods etc.) Thanks guys |

Re: rear axle?
The 72 shafts are about 3/4" too long for your housing. You can either swap the whole 72 rear, or else get aftermarket 5 lug shafts for your 69.
The easiest/cheapest swap for the discs would be to take the 72 control arms/shafts and all of the steering linkage. Ray |
