Anybody have trouble keeping inside window handles on when using thick door panels?

I never thought i would have trouble keeping these handles on since they are so hard to get off sometimes. My custom made door panels are 1/4" thick plus foam and vinyl.I get the clip on and when you use it rolling down the window a couple of times it pops off because the door panel is pushing out on the handle.Has anyone drilled out the end of the shaft on the regulator and put a small screw through handle.I know this would not look good but i may not have a choice.Could you use 72 regulators since they stick out more?

the regulator shafts are just so long// if you're going custom you may need to extend those shafts for proper operation

I ran into this too...I padded the steel panels then covered them in vinyl....what I found was that the clip was streched...pull it off give the clip a good squeeze and pop it back on...it has worked so far........

72 window regulators do indeed have a little longer shaft, are completely interchangable with 67-71 reg.s & will probably solve your problem. John

Re: Anybody have trouble keeping inside window handles on when using thick door panel

I drilled out the center of my left and right regulator shafts and tap threaded a 4-40 thread and got some stainless screws and drilled hole in handle and screwed the handles on.It actually looks pretty good but i just hope the small 4-40 screw holds and don't break or strip out.Time will tell.
