Ok now what?

I'm posting this here opposed to the electrical section because this is a year specific post. And you all are better looking over here

I've been staring at the ugly mess of a steering column on the '63 for way too long. I anticipated a battle pulling off the steering wheel. I discovered that the nut required 2/3 of a turn to remove. I figured I would need a puller to get it off but gave it a yank first. Luck I didn't break my nose! It nearly fell off. The turn signal harness assembly appears to be "ok" although the lever and the cam is mostly gone. Where do I find a new switch & Harness? It appears that everyone sells a '64-66 one but I don't see a 60-63. Should I just buy a new cam and lever and chuck it back in? At this point my electrical starts the engine, turns on the headlights but that's all I get. I figured the column is a obvious starting point.

Re: Ok now what?

Your pics are a little blurry. I cant tell if it's the same as the later years or not. If you find the switch it will have a new harness.

This was my JB Welded mess.....thought I had a pic of the fresh switch....guess not.

Re: Ok now what?

According to the GM Parts book;
60-62 and first jobs 63, canceling cam 3813945 W/ Integral spacer
63 after jobs 3831338 W/O integral spacer.
The 63 after jobs 3831338 is the same as 64 W/O integral spacer.
Now get this 3813945 is the same for 64-66. Seems like you could have an early 63 or late 63 canceling cam depending when your truck was built, the difference was a spacer that was integral or seperate.

Scan from 63 Truck Shop Manual.

Re: Ok now what?

what I would do is change the whole thing to a 65-66, so you can get parts.
I ended up doing that with the wifes 63, I had to change the whole cup signal cam and harness, it all fit and plugged right in, the only problem is that it is now gold/silver instead of white
I had checked the wrecking yard and out of the 15 or so 63's most were broken...
like areo mentioned and I found out the interchange is :
60-62, they use a metal rod to go down to a switch in the column and the turn signal column cups will not interchange with a 63-66 column.
63 (except late 63?) all by itself, the plastic signaler has a different screw pattern than the 64-66, but the column cup will work with a 456 column.
64-65-66 all interchange. signal cup will fit on a 63 column.

Re: Ok now what?

LMC sells 'em. http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cbe/full.aspx?Page=88
Cams and cancelling parts are elsewhere int he catalog, but 60-63 specific switches on the link. Although... I did notice 63 Chev is same part number as 64-66 GMC. Interesting. (But it is different than 64-66 Chev). But it taint cheap.

Re: Ok now what?

Thanks all for your efforts in helping me. Very good info. Until now I was not even sure what I was looking at because it appeared to be nothing more than a broken up mess. I think I'll start with a new cancelling cam and lever.
