Lookie what I found in a parts truck
This has to be the weirdest whamodyne contraption I've found yet. I know it hooks up to your speedo and you set it to alarm at whatever speed you desire to keep you from speeding. I tried to hook it up to my 66 to see if it still worked. It has the same square drive thingy, but the threads are different. Tried to look it up on the internet and only found an ad in popular mechanics from 1961. http://books.google.com/books?id=Ktw...page&q&f=false Anybody ever seen one of these? |

Re: Lookie what I found in a parts truck
Impala's came with a speed warning device. Our big trucks had a governor attached to the carburetor that limited your RPM. In my dash I have the Over Speed light on all the time. Very cool indeed!

Weld spikes to your bumper like the dog collars, that would get their attention.

Re: Lookie what I found in a parts truck
That is a very cool find. Would be even more fun if you can figure out how to hook it up.

Re: Lookie what I found in a parts truck
I'm sure I could make an adapter for the speedo cable. The square plastic drive piece is the same as mine just the threads are different. If it is for an Impala I'm more inclined to sell it to someone looking for it.

In that condition with the original box, I wouldn't be surprised to find it may be worth a small fortune to a restorer.

Re: Lookie what I found in a parts truck
I'm not saying that one in particular is for the Impala rather that I think I saw a listing for a speed warning for Impala's. I have a speed control ( Cruise Control ) setup for 62-63 Impala that I was thinking of putting on the Firetruck, I used to own. It had 7.20 gears in it and was tiring to drive on the highway.

I like that it has 100 Mph on it. Yeah set it to that to warn you when you hit 100.

Re: Lookie what I found in a parts truck
The threads on US speedometers were 5/8"-18 from the late 30s up until they went to the clip-on type connector. This could be true for even earlier ones, but late 30s are the oldest I have personally looked at.
Are the threads on this gadget too large or too small for your 66? Ray |

Re: Lookie what I found in a parts truck
HOLD ON!! I'm an idiot, I tried to hook it up to the wrong end of the speedo cable. I tried to hook it up to the tranny end not thinking that the gauge cluster end is a different size.. This thing hooks up perfectly. Too bad my truck isn't running so I can test it out.
