1987 3/4 ton 4x4
Hey,new to this area. Was on 60-66 forum ,I sold my 1964 stepside and got a 87 full size.Anyway,it's been a while since I had one of these,so my questions are...I know I have a np208 in it,can I put a 205 or 203 transfer case in it? It has a 700r4 or will I need adapters? Second is the bed is shot and I have an 89 bed,can I put this on without too much fab work and how bad will it look. Also have a .030 350 to drop in it.As for lift,I don't want to go 4'' anything around 2-3'' would be fine, any suggestion? Thanks G-REX

Re: 1987 3/4 ton 4x4
I have a 1987 4x4 3/4 ton as well. I have had it for at least 8 years and it has been a good truck. I just removed the entire front end for a complete rebuild of everything. All the parts are now painted and ready to go back in but now I am painting the frame so I am not sure where I will stop. My truck has a dump bed lift on it which is great around my farm. My 350 is fuel injected and was a new GM crate engine when I bought the truck and the turbo 350 was also rebuilt so it has about 60K miles on the drive train. You can go with a 2" lift but in my case I installed Rancho helper springs in the front which were a pain to install. I am not sure how much it will lift the front but I just wanted to lift it about an inch as the rear is high enough. I have had over 75 bales of hay (3500 lbs) in this truck and still did not have an issue with it.

You can put a 205 on a 700 if you have a 205 that was originally off a Turbo 350, will need the sleave and adapter, also a 2" spacer that goes between the tranny and adapter.

In order to swap in the 203 you will still need a 2 inch spacer and both driveshafts will need the length changed.

Re: 1987 3/4 ton 4x4
The 350 turbo is already bolted up to 203,came out of a wrecker.I'll need driveshafts and possibly moving cross member.I im going to put in the 350th/203 in place of 700r4 and 208.But was messing with truck and trans and 208 are working fine.Shifter linkage was off, adjusted and seems to work ok. Thanks for reply

Re: 1987 3/4 ton 4x4
I'm going to put the 350 th/203 in ,and take the 700r4/208 out. The 203 has the part time conversion. The front driveshaft seems like it will work.(bolt up on transfer case). The rear is a fixed yoke on 203 ,and a slide yoke on 208. I'll need a telescopic driveshaft to bolt to the fixed yoke on the 203.So if I can find one out of a 1973-1979 3/4 ton ,it should bolt up to rear. Sound right? Thanks
