It finally runs good "Budget Build"
The 350 in my 72 was "recently rebuilt" when i bought it, but it smoked, missed, had noisy lifters and the timing was all over the place. Being cheap i went as cheap as possible to fix it, here is what i did. It doesnt look like anything special, but it was a ball of grease and rat turds when i got it.
used 305 heads cause the seats were beat out of mine 0.00 left over head gaskets from a job i did last year 0.00 new timing chain 18.99 chrome timing cover 16.00 intake gaskets 9.00 used factory 4 barrel aluminum intake 0.00 alum paint to make like new 5.00 new lifters 55.00 ex gaskets 5.00 chrome valve covers 0.00 valvoline racing 15-40 cause it has ZDDP 22.00 It runs and sounds like a new engine, not bad for 132 dollars. The look on my 9 year olds face when i let him fire it up for the first time after i explained the distributor install, priceless.

Re: It finally runs good "Budget Build"
Yip, use what ya got man. Actually the valves sizes are the same, runners are a tad smaller, but the compression moved up cause it went from 76cc chambers to 58cc chambers. For a near stock motor used below 4500 rpm its perfect, torquey as heck, it'll roast the tires now.

Re: It finally runs good "Budget Build"
yeah more of a preference i guess, but it didnt take much to beat the soft seated factory ones. If i was gonna spend a tad bit on it i would go vortec heads for sure. But its really irelavent cause i plan on using as is until a 6 liter conversion.
