GreaseMaster - Biodegradable Degreaser

Has anyone heard of this product (Grease Master) and/or used it previously?

I picked up a book about restoring trucks and they mentioned this product because it's environmentally friendly and fully biodegradable.

A pint is $75...

The paragraph from the book that piqued my interest is here:

Quote:
"GreaseMaster is safe, non-toxic, has an almost neutral pH, is biodegradable and can legally be disposed of in waste water or used as a plant fertilizer.

Unlike detergents that emulsify or solvents that dissolve grease, GreaseMaster lifts the buildup-leaving no oily film on the surface of the part. The cleaned surface can simply be rinsed and painted. The product works extremely well with a power washer or can be used as a bath. A pint size container [$75] will yield 50 gallons of cleaning solution, which can be re-used by allowing the sediment to settle and then periodically skimming oil off the top. If used with a power washer, a bed of hay or stray under the wash area will collect oil and grease leaving the runoff clear with no oil film rainbow effect on the water's surface."
Some highlights from their website (http://www.rusteco.com/index.htm):

Safe on all metals & fabrics
Does not emulsify oil with water
Acts as oil separator
Can be directly painted over
Dilution factor up to 1000 times
Safe for marine/wild life
No effect on skin
No alkaline base
No disposal restrictions
Working pH near neutral
Contains no Phosphates
Multiple repeat use
Exceeds Milspecs on salt removal
Provides oil free surface

I am thinking about picking up some of this stuff since is safe for the environment and I don't have to worry about dumping toxic chemicals at some specialty location.

If anyone has direct experience with it, please let me know.

Re: GreaseMaster - Biodegradable Degreaser

I found a review of GreaseMaster with nothing but good things to say.

Read the review, or I quoted some of it below.

Quote:
Recently I tried some products talked about in the book How to Restore Your Collector Car. They were recommended as environmentally and user-friendly agents for degreasing and de-rusting (more accurately de-corroding).

I was absolutely floored by their effectiveness and user-friendly nature.

Michael Nahm and his family-run company (TMT Services Corporation), have been specializing in environmentally safe degreasing and corrosion removal in marine vessel ballast tanks for more than 10 years.

He does it using his proprietary products GreaseMaster and Rusteco.

What separates his products from the rest of the cleaning and corrosion removal products and processes available is, well...everything.

They are that revolutionary.

If you haven't heard about these products up until now, don't feel bad because neither had I.

These aren't the kind of snake oil "miracle cleaners" you usually find when trying unheard of cleaners/degreasers/corrosion removers.

TMT's products and services have been used by Sea-Land, Exxon and the oil industry for a long time now (not to mention the production crew of the phenomenally successful motion picture Titanic).

$75 for a pint which makes 55 gallons?

More importantly, you can re-use the solution this creates by simply skimming the oil off the top and removing any sediment in the bottom.

Most other caustic materials require you dump them all after a certain amount of time and start over... That's GOT to be more expensive than this stuff.

Plus, you have to factor in your time to haul away, and legally dispose of, the more hazardous materials...

Regardless, I'm REALLY hoping someone on here has used the stuff before and can comment / review.

If no one has, then I'm going to order a sample of it and do a review on these boards...

Re: GreaseMaster - Biodegradable Degreaser

Nope! I promise I'm not selling anything.

I had never heard of this product before this week when I read about it in an old Motobooks Workshop book.

Anyway, hopefully someone will have first hand experience with it and let us know.

If not, then I've got an engine to pull apart soon anyway, so I'll give the stuff a shot at that old block.

Re: GreaseMaster - Biodegradable Degreaser

Will do.

I just talked to the folks at Rusteco.com, unfortunately they do not offer a "sample" / "starter" size like some other (POR-15) products I've been wanting to test.

However, all the reviews look great so I'm going to give the stuff a shot.

I've got an old 78 Silverado parts truck which still has a good engine and trans in it.

I'll be pulling the motor and disassembling it, and using GreaseMaster to clean up the parts. Then I'll report back to see how well it works!

However, I'll probably need to start a new thread, or have a moderator move this one to the Review section...
