s10 rear end

I am doing a 1950 s10 swap (the s10 was wrecked not tearing down a perfectly good truck). In order to do this I have to used a 4x4 rear end. Are any parts of the 2wheel drive interchangeable. I can get a housing but not sure about the condition of the gears. Could I use my internal workings on the 4wheel drive? The 2 wheel drive rear end was rebuilt a couple of years ago.

Re: s10 rear end

Assuming they are both the same type of axle (7.5" is the most common, but you will find a few 8.5" S-10 rears out there too), everything but the shafts should swap. 4WD shafts are of course longer than 2WD.

If you are going to use the shafts that come with the 4WD housing, check the spline count on both differential assemblies. They can have either 26 or 28 splines, and I don't know what year the splines changed.
