RPO KC4 factory oil cooler, pull it or scrap it?
I have a 87' V10 that is all stock and well optioned, but I am always on the lookout for ways to add more options it didn't come with. A buddy of mine has an 87' Surburban that he is scrapping, and it has the factory KC4 option of a oil cooler still on it in great shape. I know this would fit mine and be 1 more (totally unnecessary I know) option for me to add, but wondered if it was worth pulling for mine. Neat to have on it, or 1 more thing to leak!? I've never had a truck with a factory oil cooler on it and just wondering if it's worth the time and if they are more trouble than they are worth. Opinions appreciated, ecspecially if you have one. Thanks!

Re: RPO KC4 factory oil cooler, pull it or scrap it?
I actually just pulled mine off of my K30 because it needed lines and was leaking real bad. I have one on my Burb, not sure how much good it does. I would like to re-install the one on the K30, think it`ll be helpful when plowing. If it is intact and working, and you like to ad options, then go for it.

Re: RPO KC4 factory oil cooler, pull it or scrap it?
I am not sure how much they help, but I have always wanted one too. Something about rare factory options gets me too. I have heard some horror stories about Blazers with their notoriously leaky oil cooler lines blowing at highway speeds and blowing all the oil out of them thus cooking the engine but there is an easy way around that. If it were me, i'd take the stock lines to a custom fab/race shop and have them make me some braided stainless lines with AN fittings, then you should be set for good. I'd go for it, it adds a little extra cool factor.

They usually leak. I wouldnt bother adding another problem to the truck. The oil cooler is rarely neccessary.

I never like to install a "used" oil cooler, transmission or motor oil. Too many chances for teeny tiny bits of another motors metal to end up in mine.
