what works?
I'm thinking about combining a couple projects into one, but I'm not sure which piece's will fit in my puzzle. Truck #1 is a chevy 2wd low hump 67' chevy small back window, with a 350 and th350. Truck #2 is a 71 gmc 4x4 high hump 4-speed sm465 with a np205. Both Lwb. I also have a Th400 coupled to a np203. My questions are: #1 If I put the 67 cab on the 4x4 frame with the low hump and use the th400 will I have any clearance issues without cutting the floor? and question #2: To keep the truck an automatic, will the th400 even bolt to the np205 without adapters and such? I got the th400/np203 out of a 78 or so k3500 donor truck, I have no idea what splines the outputshafts have? Any advice is much appreciated. I had planned on having a summer truck and a winter truck, but with a new unexpected 3rd baby on the way, I think financially it would be wise to combine a couple projects and make 1 nice truck. The reality is that I need 1 reliable 4wd vehicle to plow my driveway and get to work.

Re: what works?
Without your actually saying so, I get the impression that you like the 67 cab a lot better than the 71, and that you have some kind of objection to the 203 t/c. Is that correct?
Well, you are going to need the high hump, so if the 71 cab is bad, you could cut out the hump and weld it into the 67 cab. Your 205 will not bolt to the TH400 without replacing a lot of parts or using an aftermarket adapter. The easiest/cheapest fix if you want an automatic 4WD would be to use the TH400/203 combination as-is. If the 203 is bad, or if you just plain don't like it, buy a TH400/205 already married and sell the other two transmissions and transfer cases. You will probably come out ahead on cash that way. Re: what works?
Yes, I'm very partial to that cab as it once belonged to my grandpa. It is a small back window too, which I think is way cool. Kinda the end of an era. I'm dissapointed that the th400 won't bolt to the np205 without hassle. I have a tilt, automatic column I would have loved to use. I guess I'd rather keep the sm465 4-speed/205 to keep that transfercase. I ran a 203 in my last truck and I really didn't care for the full time. Thanks for the advice sounds like I'll be cutting the floor for the 4-speed. The other cabs I have are repairable but I need something to drive soon, and I don't have the time to wait on the body work.

Re: what works?
you can make the 203 part time (be SURE to use it frequently though so everything stays lubed) and get manual hubs. or use the range box from the 203 and get the adaptor ($$) for a doubler with the 205!
