Brake fittings - how tight?

I am bending up some new brake lines with new fittings to the master cylinder and prop valve. How tight should the flare nuts be installed? Is there a torque spec? Do repeated tightinings of the fittings do any damage to the pipe flares?

thanks
mark

As tight as it takes to stop a leak. Repeated tightening of the nuts is not an issue. In fact, it is a good idea to tighten and loosen a few times to have the flare fittings form to each other. I used stainless steel fittings and tube and had a few fittings I tightened so tight I thought the fittings were going to crack but they did not and the leaks were fixed.

Yeah I've never had problems with fitting stripping out, just make sure you get it im straight, also flare nut wrenches if you don't already have them are a lifesaver, I didn't have any when I did my brake so all the leaky spots have marks on them from the vice grips haha
