Re: shock mount help
These are the best pics I can offer. Here’s the stock passenger side on a 1960:
Here’s a pic of the driver side with the suspension removed. If you swap to the later coil spring front suspension the upper mounts must be relocated further to the rear to correctly align with the new lower control arm mount. Here’s a markup showing both locations: And here’s a lousy photo of the finished installation of a 1975 suspension in a 1960 GMC: The 63-87 front shocks will fit this bracket, but you must insert the upper steel sleeve from the 1960 shock to reduce the bushing diameter to the correct bolt size, and to prevent collapsing the bracket against the shock. If you are keeping the stock torsion bar suspension, the same information applies. Just adding a 1960 upper bushing will allow use of the 63-up shocks which are more widely available in a variety of models. |

Re: shock mount help
If they are the type shown in photo 6 on the following link, I'm not sure these will work on a 1960.
http://www.classictrucks.com/tech/10...t_bracket.html The later frames that used the single stud mount have a factory indentation in the frame where the stud bolts on. If CPP makes a different style for the 60-62 please post a photo or part number as I haven't been able to find one. |

Re: shock mount help
Is it the bracket that mounts on top of the frame? This is what mine looks like:
...while this is a photo of the down tube of my exhaust, my upper shock bracket is visible in the upper right corner...

Re: shock mount help
The base of the mount is contoured to closely match the shape of the top of the frame in that area.

Re: shock mount help
Shocks are a personal preference thing, but for the measuring part, what I did was set the truck at the ride height I wanted and measured the distance from the center of the upper and lower mounts. I used this measurement to find a shock that had a mid-travel measurement that was about the same length.
