Clutch Question
I have a I6 in my 64 with a 3 on the tree. I am putting a 283 in it and i want to keep the original tranny. However, the clutch pivot arm is bolted to the side of the I6 block. What do i have to do to get around this so i can drop in my V8?

Re: Clutch Question
You will need a ball stud like this that screws into the side of your 283.

Re: Clutch Question
After looking at it again, it looks like the entire pivot assy is too far forward for where that pin screws into the 283 block. Looks like a good 6+".

Re: Clutch Question
My 350 has 2 places to screw the pivot ball into. One is right by the bell housing and the other is about 6" forward from there by the dipstick.--Jeff

Re: Clutch Question
If your 283 doesn't have that forward hole or at least the boss so you can drill and tap it, you're SOL.

Re: Clutch Question
LOL, Thanks Fab. I will check it today. If it doesn't have it looks like it will be time for an automatic tranny.

Maybe you could use something like this. I think this is for an LS based engine, but you could make one similar to it I'm sure.---Jeff

Re: Clutch Question
This one was on a Nova site. Looks like it can be done a few different ways or styles.

Re: Clutch Question
Heck yeah, now were talking. I am guessing i will have to take something like and modify it to work. I hate the thoughts of having to drop in an automatic, LOL. Thanks for this info.

Re: Clutch Question
It seems like I remember a bracket just for these trucks that went from the bellhousing to the motor mount pad. I don't know if I'm hallucinating or not. I was a kid when I started working on these things, so some of that info is "foggy" at best. Maybe LilRed can shed some light on this. He has a ton of these trucks. I'd do anything to keep a shifter in my truck.--Jeff

Re: Clutch Question
I've seen the brackets for the rear location, and ones in between the front and rear location. But fabricating a bracket for the forward location will be a PITA since you need to find a place to brace the front of that bracket. I'm not sure where that would be is why I didn't mention it. Anyway another option to this dillema would be to go with a hydraulicly operated clutch.
