GMC 67/68 owner question - grill molding top
I am trying to figure out if the upper grill molding is required for a 67 or 68 GMC. The LMC catalog only shows it for 68-72 GMC grills page 66. But my assembly manual shows it being attached with rivits to a grill with the "GMC" in the center which would be a 67. And if its required for a 67 would it be painted the body color? Its shows in the LMC as chrome so I am really confused. Any help would be apprecated!
Thanks, Don |

Re: GMC 67/68 owner question - grill molding top
If I understand it correctly (please correct me if I wrong)- Some of the 67 and the 68 both had small trim around the grille or no trim at all. Some 68's should have a small strip of trim that runs along the hood and small "tear drop" trim down the fenders. Later models had the big thick trim tthat went around the hood and headlights. I think on a GMC after 68 with the big trim, if its not on there (trim) it will have a gap between the hood and grille. ???
Now that I think about it, I may be entirely wrong..... To early for me, plus I finished my first cup of coffee yet... Hope you can get a solid answer to this, I would like to know for sure or not... |

Re: GMC 67/68 owner question - grill molding top
This is the way I understand it so hopefully this helps. The 67/68 have a chrome moulding trim that attaches to the hood much like the chevys do. Then there is small mouldings attached to the fenders that go down around the grill on either side. The 69-72's have the bigger moulding that is attached to the grill with rivets and the large mouldings that go down on either side of the grill. I think on the 67/68's its an option because I have seen them both ways on original trucks, If im wrong someone please chime in

Re: GMC 67/68 owner question - grill molding top
If you guys can pull up the LMC on-line order book the piece in quesiton is on page 66, 68 GMC. Its the #5 piece.
http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cb/full.aspx?Page=66 On page 65 (67 GMC) no piece. http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cb/full.aspx?Page=65 The reason I aam confused is that only the 67 grill has the GMC inbedded in the center as the 68 the GMC is mounted to the hood. In the assenbly manual it shows that #5 piece on page 66 with the grill with the GMC on it. Also, this piece came with my truck as new still in the box so thats why I am again confused. the #2 I believe is for 67 and 68, my 68 is original and has the #2 piece, and all the early ones before 69 that I have seen have the #2 piece. I think their catalog isnt 100% correct on this one

Re: GMC 67/68 owner question - grill molding top
That's why I asked for the item number. I wasn't sure which one you were referring to.
The part you are referencing (#5) is not for the 67-68 trucks. At least not the ones I've seen. My 68 is like Dingfodgy's but mine is not riveted on. It has some bolts on the bottom and the side and I can remove the grill while that part stays with the front clip. |
