Re: need help double flaring a brake line
Ok, that sounded dumb...
I think I have 5/16 or 1/4 going to the rears, I did some of the front in 5/16 as well? Im talking from Mc to prop. valves AND line comming off prop. vavle going to rears is all 5/16 i believe The line going to FRONT brakes from bottom of prop vavle is 1/4 or 3/16 not sure, I htink 3/16, ECE sent it to me prebent, so i assume its correct?

Re: need help double flaring a brake line
Nope. 1/4" for the rear. At the MC, the NUT is bigger, but still only a 1/4" line. As said by cparman, you will not get a good pedal with line that is too big.

Re: need help double flaring a brake line
Yes, don't let the nut size make you think the lines are bigger than they are. I have never seen ANY GM, Ford or Mopar (pre metric ones) with lines that were not either 3/16" or 1/4". Typically you want the same line size from the MC to the prop valve as the lines are to the rest of the system. If you are converting to disc brakes but NOT redoing the hard lines on the frame, everything would be 1/4" lines, which though not correct for the disc brake (i.e. front) lines, will work. If you only were picking one size to use, use 3/16" for everything as it's a little less volume to the drum brakes in the rear but the rears don't do as much work as the front discs.
I have seen some cases where the MC to prop valve, they were bigger than the rest of the system. Still from the prop valve to the brakes they would be one of those two listed above.

Re: need help double flaring a brake line
right now i have 1/4 on everything but prop valve to wheel calipers (FRONT)
so its ok to leave the 1/4 lines from mc to prop valve alone?

Re: need help double flaring a brake line
Did you ever figure out your front brake caliper issues?

Re: need help double flaring a brake line
YEP. If you go to MP brakes site you will find a page that describes what you should have ( line size) for a disc/drum set up. If you were to look at a 72 truck you will see 3/16 front and 1/4 rear. It just works brother! Get busy!

Re: need help double flaring a brake line
Save your self a lot of aggravation and get the Ni/Cu line at AutoZone. You will thank me later.

Re: need help double flaring a brake line
It's not ideal but yes it will work fine. As long as you have 3/16" from the prop valve to the front calipers, you'll be fine.
