all wheel drive
I looked at an 06 GMC Z71 all wheel drive today. Just what does that mean? Is that limited slip front and rear only in 4wd or is that all wheel drive full time? Or is the window sticker info just wrong?

Re: all wheel drive
Well 2 of my trucks have the push button 4wd but seeing that 06 listing "all wheel drive" sounds like something from one of those imports or something. I guess full time 4wd comes to mind and I wouldn't want that.

Re: all wheel drive
I was curious so I did some searching. It looks like AWD is full time 4WD with a new name. FT4WD got a bad name in the mid to late 70s when the truck makers switched to it. They switched back to regular 4WD after a few years...
The trucks of the time seemed to eat front driveshafts and drank gas like crazy. Check and compare the gas mileage but driving the front wheels all the time has to use more fuel. Last edited by 72lb4x4; 09-04-2010 at 09:52 PM. |

Re: all wheel drive
I also remember those full time 4wd's of the 70s'. I think Audi and some others have that also.
The truck has a 5.3 engine and 14 city/20 hwy mpg rating.
