Project: Old Timer...
Well I think it's about time I start a thread on my latest project... I've had this '68 for eleven years now and I'm finally serious about working on it. I got this truck from my grandpa-it belonged to his father who bought it new. (The truck was originally a long step side.) When I got the truck I had full intentions on making it a short wide. So what did I do at 16? I took a running and driving truck completely apart and got rid of everything except the cab and front clip. The frame and bed went to my grandpa's farm.
I found a short bed frame and a short fleet bed and set the cab and front clip on it. Thats how it's sat for the last nine or so years while I've worked and played with other trucks. Now, with my grandpa not getting any younger I want to at least show him that this truck is not going to waste. I've got big plans for this truck; maybe too big of plans. I'm probably dreaming on how I want this truck to be, but I plan on it taking me quite a while to accomplish. Within this last year I decided to make the truck look like it did when my great-grandpa had it-but with my sense of style-so I went and got the frame and long bed from my grandpa's. I plan on cutting everything down to a short bed, so it'll be a short step side, painted and kind of orignal looking, layed out on 20 and 22 inch Twista Vistas (I hope I can do this with a stepside), fuel injected (maybe some kinda forced induction) LSx, tremec five speed, 14" wilwoods....and a lot of Porterbuilt goodness! Pictures coming soon.... I promise! Last edited by jwalk; 09-07-2010 at 10:56 PM. |

Re: Project: Old Timer...
I don't have any pictures of the truck when I first got it. Maybe I can find something at my grandpas. This is what it looked like when I just now started working on it. First I started getting everything off the frame (saving the short frame for my current driver.)

I drug home the frame and bed and started getting everything cleaned up.

I started cutting the frame down and removing more cross members and adding braces.

Re: Project: Old Timer...
Got the frame cut down to a short wheel base. Still need to grind and weld some kind of plate to the inside of the frame.

Re: Project: Old Timer...
I'm sorry for the cell phone pics. It's just a lot more handy than a camera.
I'm waiting on some orders to come in before I can continue. Justin |
