What are these #'s on my frame?
What is the meaning of the numbers stamped into the side of the frame rail near the driver-side & passenger-side door? Driver -side # is 3999925 271 5 9 34, see picture. Passenger-side # is one digit different- 3999925 271 5 10 34. The numbers are stamped upside-down.
Also at the very front of the frame rail near the bumper, on the outside, the # 271 is stamped on both sides. Does this mean the frame is a 1971 2wd frame? Thanks for your help. |

Do any of those numbers match the last six of your VIN?

Re: What are these #'s on my frame?
Partial vin numbers are common on the frame, also date and year on 71 & 72's.

Re: What are these #'s on my frame?
So would you say it is safe to say the frame is from a 71 or 72? The numbers on the frame do not match any in the VIN #. Is it possible to determine the year and type (2wd or 4wd) of frame I have using those #'s off the frame?

BTW, 40 year old frames don't look like that up here in Minnesota. Pictures like that amaze me.

Re: What are these #'s on my frame?
The long # is the part # for the frame or each frame rail. As for the vin # it is stamped in 2 places on the top side of the frame (one under the cab and one by the steering box). The very 1st digit tells what year the frame is (the one in the pic is a 1972), then a Letter which is the plant it was made at, and the the last 6 digits are the part that matches the vin.

Thanks for your help & I did find the number stamped on top of the frame rail near the steering box. It reads 32Z514012, see attached pic. Does this mean it is a 1973 frame? Is it possible that the first 3= 1ton, and the 2=1972, and the Z = Fremont?? Or is it for sure a 1973 frame? I know the truck was pieced together with the cab and engine from a 72, but I assumed the frame was from a 67-72 4x4, not a 73. I would like to know the year frame so when I order replacement parts for the undercarriage, I order the right parts. Also attached is a pic of the truck, which I have now owned 4 years to the day! |

Re: What are these #'s on my frame?
I would bet money that your frame is not a 73. I have heard they are very difficult to convert for a 1967-1972 body. But I guess it could have been. This is the first time I have ever seen 2 #’s in front of the single letter, and I have like 30 parts trucks around here.
