another "cool" thread?

funny right? no... well, so here it is. been tinkering with my 67 and figure its about time to get the old ac running. i havent tried runnin it yet because i didnt know if there was anything that i need to check for and what not before i throw the juice to it. i was thinkin maybe pull a vacumm on it the old fashion way (which i forgot how to do) and convert it with the kit from the advance? thanks guys.

I retrofited my 91 s-10 blazer with 170k miles, myself. I bought the complete conversion kit for $24.99 that comes with everything you need. I followed the easy instructions and today in NY it is 93 degrees with 70% dew point and it cranks out the cold air. Don't listen to someone who never tried it before. Just make sure you dont have any leaks. Mine used to take 2 years for enough to leak out so it wouldn't work but I still had pressure in the system. The new kit comes with special oil to help the old seals.
Believe me, it will work. I figured for $25 bucks even if it worked for a year I would be happy and it has been over a year. If alittle leaks out, just top it off. I even had some left over. Go do it and good luck.

Why not just keep with R12? I think you can still get it off the internet, is it just pricy though? I want to say R12 is better than the R134a because it operates at a lower pressure, but I could be wrong.

whats the easiest way to check for leaks? also, ive pulled a vacumm on another ac system before by crossing some wires but dont remember exactly how. any help on gettin the old stuff out? and i want to switch to the newer stuff because its more convienent.

The only way to check for a leak is to pull vacuum on the system and see if it holds. You need a vacuum pump to do this. How do you pull vacuum on a system by crossing wires?
