stuck in 4 lo
Finally finished putting an engine in '99 Blazer. Got discouraged with it around May and let it sit until a couple of days ago. Everything looked good, started right up, engine runs fine. Drove it out the road, tranny shifts fine. Only thing is it is stuck in 4 wheel lo. When I turn the key on, there are a couple of clicks under the passenger side dash or kick panel. Has automatic shifting system for the transfer case, does the computer possibly need reset, new TCCM, stuck shifting mechanism? Any ideas on how to check what may be wrong? Any other ideas?
Chuck

Re: stuck in 4 lo
To shift out of 4lo you have to be in neutral.
How did it get stuck in 4lo? Did you put it in, or did it do it itself?

Re: stuck in 4 lo
After I got the battery in and started it up it was in 4-lo. I have put the tranny in neutral, tried pressing 2w hi and 4w lo at the same time to get the transfer case to shift into neutral which didn't happen. I've tried rocking it back and forth and also drifting backward in neutral trying to get it to change.

Re: stuck in 4 lo
Well, got it to shift out of 4 Lo. Noticed that the shift position indicator on the dash wasn't working correctly. Checked the connectors on the tranny, they were tight. Just started running the shifter through the positions several times and it started lighting up. Must have gotten some corrosion on the contacts in the position sensor or something. Anyhow, put it in neutral with the indicator light on and it shifted out of 4 LO.
Thanks Chuck

Re: stuck in 4 lo
these shift motors get grumpy if not used regularly.
if you decide to replace one avoid Dorman (high failure rate on the sensor). |
