I know someone on here did a 96ish Impala rear rotor swap... cant think of who it was though

Not sure about the tuck application, but a popular conversion on cars is rear disks from S10s.

77-79 caddy seville rotors and calipers ... you'll need to fab caliper brackets and have your axles machined.

To be honest I'm not really sure I want to do it because one member said in this forrum that rear disc brakes is more cosmetic than performance but my friend who help me ,suggest to do it before we install the new rear end.
If I'm wrong please correct me thanks |

I've been saying it's not a good idea on this forum for years. All it does is add weight and INCREASE rolling resistance. 60 to 0 distance improvments are hardly noticed over a properly working rear drum truck. Most swaps aren't even done right.
Now, in a 4x4 aplication, the discs are better, they don't fill with water, the pads wipe the rotor clean... it's a good idea. Also, a truck that is loaded down most of the time... also a good idea. And, on the 3/4 and one tons, where the rear brake parts were discontinued 25 years ago (try and find drums for an eaton rear) then it is a good idea if for nothing else, the lower cost verses locating rare and nonexisting parts. |

a truck is too light in the rear to take full advantage of a rear disc system ... it really has nothing to do with added weight or rolling resistance

I find drum brakes tend to lock easier than discs and can be harder to modulate. With the light back ends on trucks I'd think discs would offer less opportunity for the back to lock up first. I can't recall on these truck if it's the case but a lot of drum brakes are self energizing which can be one of the reasons for poor modulation.
