If you are asking about the 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton frame width - generally speaking it is 30 inches. But, if you are not talking about the 100 series of GMC, then I can still help you but need to know what size (series) truck we are looking at.

Bear in mind the dimensions vary slightly from front to rear of the frame, so be more specific of where you want to take a measurement. The cab attachment horns stick out past the outside rails.....

I have a factory assembly manual for 55-59 Chevrolets that details all the exact dimensions. These books generally sell for around $29.00.
