Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Thanks. We're having fun with it.
We added a bit of storage with some 30x18x18 underbody boxes. |

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Thanks for the comments, we appreciate the feedback.
My son wanted to clean up the rear while we're waiting on engine/drivetrain work. He cleaned up the bed before rattle-canning it a gloss black (easy touch-up). A few coats of stain/polyurethane has the sides protected and looking good. |

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
We pulled out the old pitted rear glass and dropped a slider in it's place, also welded up some brackets to hold mud flaps

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Truck looks awesome man. It is coming along great. I also love the story behind it, and your kids surprising you with it. As a dad myself I know how much it means, even little as some may be, when your kids do something special for you. Definitely subscribing to see how the progress continues. Hopefully I can see this beast in person sometime soon.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
The truck keeps looking better all the time! You know what is the best part of this build is? You guys started with an old truck and are bringing it back to life by your selves. Anyone can do it and you guys are showing them how step by step. Nice work!

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Thanks to all for the kind remarks.
I'm an old gear head and being able to share that with my son, daughter, and even wife brings me great joy. But, sometimes I think that they got the truck to get me off their asses and back into the garage.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Not to ruin your thread, but how's your son's extended cab, cab, coming along?

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Not ruining it at all! Thanks for asking!
It's slowed down with our body man struggling with some health issues. He's really doing us a huge favor and trying to do as much as he can in his spare time...we wouldn't have attempted the extension without his expertise. We are in a bit of a lull anyhow, and there's other parts of my son's build that need our attention, so we're working around it. BUT, having that done would be the catalyst we need to start making more things happen quicker.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
I love what you and your kids are doing with this truck, it's really come a long way. Have you taken it back for a visit with the former owner yet? I bet he'd be surprised!

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Been looking at different tire options in prep for going 4X, the wheels are narrow at 6", and we didn't want to run spacers on the rear...so, a 245/70-19.5 (about 33.5") is about as much as you can run.
We dug through a local truck repair shop's resale tire pile and dug out 6 of the best M/S recaps we could find. We were able to find some with nearly new treads for cheap. Got the rears on, but am struggling a bit with putting them on the front. I'd like to believe that recapping has come along way and this truck won't see a lot of highway miles...but, there's good reason recaps aren't allowed on big rig/rv fronts. I "think" they're legal on lighter weight rigs?? I did keep the two practically "new" ones set aside for the front. We'll probably put them on and see what happens.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Thanks! We thought about running it by the ole boy, he's only a few miles from us...but, I think I want to wait until I get it converted over to 4X with the BBC.
