What size braided fuel line? -6 or -8 for sb400
Hey guys I just got my aluminum fuel cell in and I'm ready to buy some braided fuel lines. However I dont know which fuel lines I should go with. I already have the -6 dual feed from edelbrock. Check it out:
Brand Edelbrock Manufacturer's Part Number 8128 Part Type Carburetor Feed Lines Product Line Edelbrock Dual-Feed Fuel Line and Filter Kits Summit Racing Part Number EDL-8128 UPC 085347081288 Inlet Quantity One Inlet Attachment Male threads Inlet Size -6 AN Outlet Quantity Two Outlet Attachment Male threads Outlet Size 5/8-20 in. Fuel Line Type Tube and braided flex line Adjustable No Fuel Filter Included Yes Gauge Port No Fuel Pressure Gauge Included No Fuel Line Material Stainless steel Fuel Line Finish Chrome Fitting Material Stainless steel Fitting Finish Chrome Quantity Sold as a kit. Notes Kit includes polished fuel filter. My sb400 should be making around 580ft lbs of torque. I've heard some say the -6 line is too small. So should I run the -8 line to my edelbrock fuel pump or the -6 to match my existing dual feed fuel line? Also my fuel cell is all the way back to the rear crossmember so should I need 15' or 20' in your opinion? Thanks guys! |

I'm using a mechanical edelbrock pump. No regulator required.

NPT Inlet Quantity One Outlet Attachment Female threads Outlet Size 3/8 in. NPT Outlet Quantity One Quantity Sold individually. Notes These fuel pumps are capable of supporting up to 600 horsepower. Edelbrock Performer RPM street fuel pumps are designed for use with all Edelbrock carburetors used in Performer or Performer RPM applications. These high performance street fuel pumps feature a high-quality, 3-stage polished finish. The unique valve design of these pumps improves flow quantity and quality and will support engines with up to 600 hp. The high-volume, 3/8 in. NPT inlet and outlets surpass the capacity of many other pumps. Edelbrock Performer RPM street fuel pumps produce 6 psi and do not require a regulator. Best of all, the clockable lower housing can be rotated for the best inlet and outlet alignment. They are designed for use with gasoline only... Last edited by Hazieview; 10-15-2010 at 06:04 AM. |

Re: What size braided fuel line? -6 or -8 for sb400
There is no point in having huge lines with that pump. It says right in the discription that it has 3/8" NPT fittings, so adding 1/2" lines after it accomplishes nothing.
The dash fittings are measured in 16ths of an inch, so 6/16 equates to 3/8. -6 = 3/8" -8 = 1/2"

Re: What size braided fuel line? -6 or -8 for sb400
o.k. for a mechanical fuel pump... use -8 with an inline filter and a check valve to the pump. If you are using a regulator, -6 from the pump to the regulator, then -6 from regulator to your 2nd filter/dual feed, if no regulator, -6 from the pump to the 2nd filter/dual feed.
the 1st filter... the alum fuel cell is bottom outlet fed. which means all the crap that gets into the tank will make its way into your fuel line, so put a cleanable filter close to the tank (you don't want that crap going thru your pump). the check valve... more than likely, your fuel cell outlet is now lower than your fuel pump. Put a check valve in line between the 1st filter and your pump. You don't want your pump dry pumping. your girlfriend doesnt like it, neither will your fuel pump. AN-8 line... you want as much gas as you can get going to the pump with the least amount of resistance. need a visual aid? try drinking something with a swizzle stick, then drink thru one of those big honkin straws from Mickey D's. The bigger the line, the less chance for fuel starvation. hope this helps...

Thanks for the help man. I'll go with the -8. Looks like I need to buy me a check valve and another filter. What micron filter do you think I should get coming from the fuel cell? Also do you have any idea how much braided hose I should need I forgot to measure when I was under the truck. Thanks again! Last edited by Hazieview; 10-15-2010 at 01:10 PM. |
