85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

I just got this 1985 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab.

Drive train - 454/th400
A/C, Power Locks, Power Windows, Cruise, tilt column, factory am/fm radio, hydro boost brakes

Pictures

Rusty Areas

Plans:

Drive train - Converting it to 4x4 (6.2 Diesel/Th400/np205) Swapping in a 6.2 diesel for better gas mileage.

For now I will just run the 454 while I work on doing some rust repairs. I will be stripping it down to the frame at some point.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

So far I have the qjet pulled off of the engine to rebuild it. The carb is really dirty, and it is flooding and having trouble staying running.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Its the dealerships tag that they put on the trucks when they where new on the lot. Its the Roper GMC/Pontiac dealership which is in Joplin, MO. I think the dealership is still in business, but I found in the glove box the business card for the guy that sold the truck back in 85.

No we do not. This 454 has all kinds of emissions **** hooked up. I would take it all off, but the plan to drop a 6.2 in this thing kinda makes it pointless for me to do all that work to it. I just want to get it running for now so I can enjoy it till the tear down.

Well that's good that yall don't emissions testing. I think that would be the first thing I would remove, but you could just remove the belt and bend the tubes over on the manifolds.

Oh nice! I didn't notice that but it doesn't have a 80lb oil pressure gauge so I think someone swapped in that bezel.

Sometimes the SES light is up there, where the Glow Plugs and Water in fuel light are on a diesel.

Sorry, but what about the bezel makes it look like a diesel bezel? I am pretty damn sure the build sheet in the glove box says it came factory with a 454 but I cant remember off the top of my head. This bezel has a "Check Engine" light, Not sure what that is for seeing as it is not computer controlled. Does that have something to do with the emissions stuff?

Does a TH400 have any vacuum lines or kick down cable? There were only a cruise and throttle cable hooked up to the carb, no kick down like a Th350. I am also not sure where the vacuum advanced for the distributor goes on this carb. It looks like it hasn't been hooked up for a long time.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Well the carb is really dirty, and so I think it will be best to drop the gas tanks to make sure that they are clean on the inside. I am also replacing all of the rubber lines and putting filters on everything to catch any dirt. I am also going to replace the line that goes from the fuel pump to the carb with hose so that I can put a inline filter so I can see if any dirt is getting up toward the carb.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

All 6.2 diesels i have seen have had that bezel in it, because those lights are for water in fuel and the glow plugs, but somebody could of swapped that in their. nice truck.

What about the bezel makes it like a 6.2 bezel? The little screen part at the top?

Yes if you take a light you should be able to see what it say in the two screens

Here you go, were you asking where the one above the filter goes to also?

Man that thing is dirty, I was almost ashamed to show it. The cummins will be prettier.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Thanks for the pictures, but that doesnt help me haha. There are so many damn vacuum lines its confusing, Im just going to start hooking them up haha. The diagram on the air cleaner is hard to follow compared to the actual engine. I want to take all the emissions stuff off, but there is so much that it would cost me more than I would want. This engine wont be in here to long.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

No, you got it right, its just the fact that I have a million more vacuum lines on mine so it doesnt really help me. I think I got it all figured out.

I tried to drop my gas tanks, but I was fighting rusty bolts, so I am going to have to wait and get my truck down to my grandpas shop and work on it. But I have a bunch of stuff to clean up from my k10 first haha.

This is the only picture that I have. You cant tell much, but it has all of the emissions stuff, and some kind of emissions thing that runs off the belts.

My 86 K30 w/350 also has that dash bezel, I`ve also seen others. What are your plans with the roof rust? Good looking rig though, be nice w/4WD.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Well I am planning on buying another crew cab without a title and a 6.2 diesel and I will cut out the top of the doors on it and weld them into this cab. I will be taking the diesel out of that truck and putting it in this truck.
