New 74 C10 with16k miles need shipper info

I just had to buy this 74 Cheyenne Super C10 short box with 16k miles documented. Original paint! The guy that bought it new left it to his grandson in 2006 and a few engine mods and exhaust was done before he sold it. It is original down to the Powerbeam headlights and LOF windshield and original mint interior. Now I have to get it shipped from East Liverpool, OH to York, Nebraska and need advise on shippers.
I have two good quotes, one from Alpine Auto Transporters and Nationwide Auto Carriers, Inc. Anyone heard of these or know a reasonable and reliable source to get it safely moved from back east to the Midwest?
Here are some pictures. Thanks, Mark

Re: New 74 C10 with16k miles need shipper info

First off, that's a beautiful truck, Mark. Congrats.

I went through the same issue when I bought my K20 on ebay. I live in the southernmost tip of Texas and the truck came from South Dakota. This is about 1,250 miles one-way. Being completely new to this and never having shipped a vehicle before, I did a lot of research. After weighing everything, I decided that the cost effective way to do it would be to ship it. I found this great website:

http://www.transportreviews.com/

Basically, there are shipping companies that own their trucks and there are also brokers. I would go with a broker if I were you because they have access to different shippers. I would NOT post your info on the 'net for quotes. I would call the broker direct if I were you. That is what I did. I found a lot of great reviews for Eclipse Auto Transport:

http://www.transportreviews.com/comp...-transport.asp

They have an A+ rating on BBB and are also members of Sally's list.

I called Tom at Eclipse on a Sunday and he got right on it. He gave me a quote by calling and sending me an email the following day. I don't know if you know how this stuff works, but basically a broker will post the dollar amount/bid that he quotes you on a national board for the shipping companies to see. Once it is on there, everyone could see it, so don't go crazy contacting several brokers/shippers because they will know your bid is already posted. If it is in the shipper's route and they'd be willing to do it for that price, they will contact the broker and make the arrangements. Price depends on a lot of factors, but the higher-trafficked metro areas are generally a lot cheaper because there are a lot more options/highways/trucks driving by. Obviously the higher the price, the faster you're going to get a bite.

One thing to keep in mind is that you have to be flexible and very patient. The brokers cannot give you an exact date for pickup but they can give you a ballpark figure. Once pickup is arranged then the delivery date is a little more exact. In other words, it may be a few days before you get a bite on your bid from one of the shippers. Some companies like to ask for deposits, but Tom at Eclipse only asks you to pay him AFTER he has found a company AND made arrangements for pickup. After he does this, his work is done but he remains available for questions until you get your vehicle. You then pay COD or credit card when the vehicle is delivered. He also makes sure the company who is going to do it has good reviews and is reputable.

I really liked the way Tom kept me in the loop, he even called me to get an okay a couple of times, and I during my research I also called other brokers and they had nice things to say about Eclipse. In all, it took about 2 weeks to get my truck, but all of that wait time with the exception of 2 days was due to waiting for someone to agree to get my truck. This is because Canova, SD is VERY remote, and I live in a somewhat remote area from major highways myself. The shipping company was really nice and they delivered 4 days BEFORE promised.

I very rarely like to endorse/recommend services/companies, etc., but Tom at Eclipse treated me very well and I have no problems recommending his services. 1-888-950-7243/1-800-496-0881.

Re: New 74 C10 with16k miles need shipper info

Thanks Mando for all the great write up on shipping info. I'll make some calls Monday and I hope to get set up with a broker tomorrow and let it go from there. I am in no hurry but I would like to get it home before a big snowstorm between here and there. Mark

For a broker I use www.unitedroad.com I've used them lots of times with no problems. If a shipping price from a broker seems too good to be true, it is and no trucker will ever pick it up.

If you want to avoid the brokers altogether and deal directly with the truckers, try www.uship.com

Re: New 74 C10 with16k miles need shipper info

My two cents would be to go through uship.com. I found this site when I was trying to ship my blazer from seattle to utah. It's a lot like ebay in that you post an auction style ad that lists the particulars with your goal price range and independents bid to get your business. My experience was awesome! Within 3 hours of posting I got a bid from a great guy that lived inbetween the shipping field and happen to be heading that way the next day. He picked up my blazer on his single flatbed truck and kept it loaded on there for a week while he secured something to tow back his way. That way I didn't eat the whole gas bill, just what it cost to come my way. Super nice guy too with great communication. I would check it out atleast!!!!

Re: New 74 C10 with16k miles need shipper info

I've shippedseveral vehicles, and encountered some real losers. But I did do business with one company that did what they said they would do, when they said they would do it. I like that. They aren't the cheapest. But the cheapest is definitely not the way to go, in my experience. Try dependable auto shippers.

DAS was the absolute worst shipper I ever dealt with. They left me hanging with a car I bought, they refused to load it after I had paid. Left me hanging bad, horrible customer service. I had to find a new shipper on the fly, the guy I bought the car from was waiting with it. I will never recommend them to anyone.
