Re: "Like I need another hole in my head" 70 chevy short wide project

It a has been a while since I posted, not that anybody is paying attention.
Anyhow I got the suspension back on so the frame is rolling. I got some of the frame bracing welded up. I still have to add bracing behind the trailing arm crossmember. I also have to install the rear sway bar. After all that I will have to take most of it apart to replace bolts with and paint the frame and pieces. I had to move the ECE panhard mount on the trailing arm lower because it would hit the frame at full bumpstop with the notch. I made custom front sway brackets for the front.
Any comments or questions welcome.

Most threads don't start with a ton of followers, they come as you put in the work. …so, let's see that van grille mocked up!

It was not really necessary for the 6" drop but i don't like bottoming out and I may go 7". Just make sure to brace it well as it does weaken the frame quite a lot.

Re: "Like I need another hole in my head" 70 chevy short wide project

Finally had some time to work on the frame bracing. I think I am done with bracing, may add a couple small braces. Now I have to clean it up and paint. I also started mocking up the fuel tank out of a 69 Camaro. I am trying to keep it as tight to the frame and as far forward as possible and still be able to fill it.

Re: "Like I need another hole in my head" 70 chevy short wide project

did you make the swaybar mounts like that to push them forward & match the lower a arms? is there much binding in the coils, shock mounts or steering with the relocation of the lower arm? this seems like an easy solution to get more caster. I like it! give us an update.

Re: "Like I need another hole in my head" 70 chevy short wide project

I made them that way due to lowering the truck, similar to what ECE sells. They may be slightly forward, just put them where they fit best. The coils are slightly angled but other than that no issues, granted I have not driven it yet but cycling the suspension and turning the tires causes no issues. Need to get back at it soon.

They are from energy suspension, not sure when or where I got them. They happen to be the right size and they were in my pile of spare parts.

Re: "Like I need another hole in my head" 70 chevy short wide project

I have not made any progress recently, had a couple of other things to finish. I needed to make some room in the shop. I plan to get back to it soon.

I like the bracing, and the rear Swaybar plan. The links can be found at O'reilly's in the performance section.

Re: "Like I need another hole in my head" 70 chevy short wide project

I have not posted or worked on the truck in a LONG time. Got back on it this last week. Gas tank mounted, started filling holes on the firewall. Still need to paint the frame, will do that soon. Pictures in a couple of days. Since I lasted posted, finished a divorce, got remarried, redecorated the house, restored a vintage travel trailer and finished a ton of landscaping.
