Sorry to post this here but the wiw forum won't let me post it there. I have a chance to buy a 3-speed with the overdrive in it, but I have no clue what is worth. Been sittin for 20 plus years he said it worked when he pulled it out. Everything looks good in the case. Just don't know how much I should pay. He wants $400 for it. Thanks in advance for any info.

Re: 3 speed Saginaw with overdrive
It is worth whatever anyone person will pay for it. If it meets your criteria, then buy it. If you have qualms, then don't. You know your wallet better than anyone else....except maybe your bride. Me, personally...I have no idea.

Had one in my 67. Didn't have it long though it cuaght on fire and burnt to the ground. Sold the motor trans and scraped the rest. Nice transmission though. Is it worth $400.00, not to me.

Re: 3 speed Saginaw with overdrive
I have been looking for one of these for my 59 GMC. Depends on how complete they are but $400 seems reasonable if it has the selenoid on it, and cheap if you are getting all the cables with it.

Re: 3 speed Saginaw with overdrive
I've heard you can swap the OD portion onto a 4speed Saginaw. That would make a really nice daily driver tanny. I know they won't handle a lot of power though.

Re: 3 speed Saginaw with overdrive
$400 is a bit steep, but the Sag is the best O/D GM ever offered, and it was only made 66-69. For that price, it must include the governor and solenoid and I would want some sort of money back guarantee in case it should have problems.
